METRO / AUTOBÚS / TRANVÍA MUNICH

TRANVÍA MUNICH
METRO/BUS/TRAM MUNICH– like other major German cities, Munich’s public transportation system is similar in that it has a network of underground (U-Bahn), suburban or surface trains (S-Bahn), trams and buses. Subway stations are marked with signs showing a white “U” on a blue background. The S-Bahn lines are marked with a white “S” on a green background. Tram and bus stops are marked with a green “H” inside a green circle on a yellow background. Munich’s public transportation fare system is also similar to Berlin’s and Frankfurt’s — the same ticket is valid for all these forms of public transit.
Under Munich’s fare system, there are Single Tickets (called “Einzelfahrkarte”), Stripe Tickets (called “Streifenkarte”) and Day Tickets (called “Tageskarte”). A single ticket costs €2.60, a “day ticket” (unlimited rides for one day) costs €2.60, and €14.30 for a three (3)-day ticket.

Since Munich’s fare system is based on a ring structure, this means that the further one is from the city center, the higher the fare is. Fares go from €2.60 (one person/one geographic ring) for a one ride, to €13.20 for a weekly ticket (that covers two rings). For those who live in Munich, or plan to spend a lot of time there and in outerlying areas, there is an “IsarCard” – which one can buy on a weekly or monthly basis (based on the number of rings away from the city center one plans to frequently travel to).
